A common cause of shock, hypoperfusion is a condition of a reduced amount of blood flow, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including heart failure, low blood pressure, and low blood volume. Shock, also called ischemia, happens when enough not oxygen is not delivered to the cells of the body, which can affect any organ, including the heart, and brain. When ischemia of the heart muscle is intermittent, it is called angina. Ischemia can also be intermittent in the brain, causing a transient ischemic attack. Also known as chest pain, angina is characterized by the feeling of pressure or squeezing in the chest. The discomfort can reach the arms, neck, shoulders, jaw, or back, and sometimes feel like indigestion. The transient ischemic attack is also called mini-stroke and is characterized by symptoms of stroke, but do not last long. Symptoms include numbness, confusion, difficulty speaking, difficulty walking, and loss of balance.
